AZER2003071001 - Arizona Eastern, Peridot, AZ, 7/2003
Arizona Eastern GP38 3816 nose down due to a flashflood washout. The washout was 40' deep X 100' wide. This is what happens when a 40' wall of water the size of 4 football fields tries to get through a 7' wooden box culvert.
Getting the 3816 "out of the hole" was an interesting challenge. Since the washout occurred on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation dealing with the tribal council over this was just as interesting.
Just as amazing was that no one was hurt and, once we got it to the shop, the 3816 started right up without any leaks or other damage.
