New York Central
The New York Central was my first professional railroad experience when, after graduating in 1965 from the University of Houston with a degree in Diesel/Mechanical Technology and Business, I was hired to be a Special Inspector in the Quality Control Department at Central's Collinwood Diesel Shops just east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. I was with NYC for about 6 months before taking a leave of absence to serve as an officer in the U. S. Army Transportation Corps.
The leave of absence I took would have allowed me to have a position when I returned from my military duty. However, by the time that came, the PC merger was in the process of becoming a real disaster. In doing some checking I determined that it would be better for me just to "move on." I will, however, always thank and be indebted to Ed White, CMO - Locomotives NYC who hired me, for giving me the opportunity to begin my railroad career.
